As summer is now upon us and the sun itself is making a regular appearance, this is a great time to visit the Lake District as there is so much going on. 9. Hadrians Wall Live! Birdoswald Roman Fort 5-6 September

A weekend of action-packed events taking place at four Roman attractions along Hadrian’s Wall. A highlight is the Legio I Italica, the 80 strong Imperial Roman Army, all the way from Italy and you can watch as 80 legionaries take on 50 barbarians in a battle like you've never seen before. 10. Tour of Britain, Cockermouth 8 September
