Last week, we were delighted to receive the news that The Pheasant Inn had been included in the 2017 Good Food Guide, sitting alongside illustrious names such as L'Enclume and The Fat Duck. The guide, owned by Waitrose, was first published in 1951 and lists the best 600 places throughout Britain to eat.
We are really proud of our food and drink here at the Pheasant Inn and were delighted to read high praise for our fresh and modern menu, mixing local ingredients and traditional dishes with impressive techniques.
"A gutsy starter is black pudding served on crumbly brioche with a poached egg and topped with rich, glazed hollandaise sauce. Goats' cheese grilled with fresh figs and caramelised onion has the added crunch of pear and walnut crumble and there's a luscious chicken liver and Madeira parfait with cubes of prune and balsamic jelly. Reassuring mains include steak and chips, roast guinea fowl and duck confit with buttered cabbage as well as ambitious dishes such as a sea bass caught at nearby Ravenglass and served with prawns, noodles, pak choi and Asian broth flavoured with chilli and soy. There's an ironic Arctic roll dessert and unmissable creme brulee with homemade shortbread."
