A day in Keswick is a day well spent…

on .

When it comes to days out near The Pheasant, Keswick has it all - local independents with Cumbrian welcomes, arts, culture and ancient history plus all the outdoor activities you’d expect from a Lake District town. And it’s a fun day out for dogs too!

Keswick is just four miles from The Pheasant in a beautiful location between Skiddaw fell and Derwentwater lake. Visitors are spoilt for things to do and we’ve hand picked some of our favourite activities in this pretty market town…

For the coffee lovers…Little Chamonix. If Keswick is the Alpine town of the Lake District then Little Chamonix is its après-ski cafe. This sweet little place is decked out like a Swiss chalet and serves coffee to wake up the most tired of fell walkers. Dogs can tag along too as Little Chamonix welcomes visitors of the four-legged kind.

For the history buffs…Castlerigg Stone Circle. Walk a mile east of Keswick and step back in time to the Neolithic Period at the country’s most impressive stone circle site. The ring of 38 monuments is thought to have been built in around 3000BC and its amazing location – on a low hill with 360 degree views of Skiddaw, Blencathra and Lonscale fell – adds to the dramatic atmosphere.

For those with sea legs…Keswick Launch tours. Boating round Derwentwater is a spectacular way to take in the local landscape and you can make a day of it on the Keswick Launch tours. Hop on and off at the eight jetties around the lake to explore famous landmarks like Ashness Bridge and Lingholm, the country Estate which was the inspiration for Mr McGregor’s garden in Beatrix Potter’s book ‘The Tale of Peter Rabbit’.

For the thespians…Theatre By The Lake. Quite possibly the most beautifully located theatre in Britain, Keswick’s Theatre By The Lake puts on resident productions and hosts a range of festivals and visiting shows throughout the year. It’s earned a reputation for big city-quality theatre with a friendly atmosphere and we’re looking forward to the spring calendar of shows including Great Expectations and A Streetcar Named Desire.

There is lots more to explore in Keswick on foot, up hill and by water - ask our team for their Keswick recommendations during your stay.
