Country girls Ashley and Michelle run Green House Floristry in Kendal, creating beautiful botanical arrangements for Lake District hotels, restaurants and weddings. The talented duo share their expertise in lovely workshops – try their Christmas wreath making, festive wrapping with a floral finish and Christmas garlands all coming up in November and December.
Festive gift ‘Quirky Workshops’ in Penrith
The Greystoke Cycle Café in Penrith is home to ‘Quirky Workshops’, an annual calendar of classes led by local creatives covering everything from pottery, embroidery, painting and even blacksmithing. Their autumn winter events have a festive feel and you can try your hand at woven willow sculptures of deer, hare and angels and drawing Christmas cards in pen and wash. Learn the art of paper cutting with Cumbria's Emma Boyes
Local creative Emma Bowes started experimenting with a scalpel and paper while on maternity leave, and eight years later she's a full time paper artist working from her studio in Penrith. Emma's intricate works can take weeks or months to complete and she creates custom artworks for private clients as well as designing commercial pieces for brands and companies. She runs one-day workshops in the art of paper cutting at Lake District venues including Rheged near Penrith.
Watercolour workshops led by Greg Howard
Cumbria-based painter Greg Howard has been painting and illustrating in watercolour and pastels for more than 20 years, renowned for his bold depictions of beauty spots in the Lakes, Yorkshire Dales and Scottish Borders. Greg runs one-day watercolour workshops in the inspiring venue of Brantwood (the home of Victorian art critic John Ruskin), where he shares his tips and techniques for landscape painting and budding artists each leave with a Lake District painting of their own.
