January is that time of year when many of us make New Year resolutions to get more exercise and burn off those extra calories from Christmas. However, if you are like us, those resolutions rarely make it to the middle of the month! However, if you are having fun being active you are so much more likely to stick at it and here are some of the things you can do whilst here at the Pheasant to keep those healthy habits going.
It sounds so obvious but many studies have shown that walking is one the best ways to keep fit and if you can manage a few hills that is even better. There are hundreds of walks right from our door step: from a challenging trek up England's 3rd highest mountain Skiddaw to a more sedate stroll along the shores of Derwentwater. A couple of our favourites close by are the scenic walk around beautiful Buttermere and the more energetic hike up to the summit of Lord’s Seat.
Well you don’t have to be Sir Chris Bonnington to enjoy climbing in the Lake District. If the weather is looking a bit grim, there are indoor climbing walls in Keswick and the family friendly vertical assault course, Clip N Climb in Maryport. Alternatively if you fancy a bit more adrenalin there is the action packed Subterranean Climb the Mine adventure at the nearby Honister Slate Mine where you can climb the walls and roof of the mine, tackle walkways and traverse all underground. Sounds a lot more fun than the gym!
If rejuvenating yourself at the Spa is more up your street, you will be pleased to hear that the Pheasant Inn can offer complimentary access to the acclaimed luxury Spa at nearby Armathwaite Hall. The Spa offers exercise or relaxation or both, as you prefer and is open to our guests under a very special arrangement. There is a 16-metre "infinity" pool, sauna and steam room or you can work out in the well-equipped gym followed by a dip in the outdoor hot tub overlooking the garden. The Spa also has ten treatment rooms, including a couple's room, where the expert staff offer professional attention and tailor every treatment to suit guests' needs.
