If like us you love all things food and drink related then you won’t want to miss the annual 2015 Taste Cumbria food festival taking place on 26-27 September in nearby Cockermouth. Now in its 5th year, the festival has established itself as one of Cumbria’s leading events and a highlight of the foodie calendar.
Here at the Pheasant Inn we don’t think that our four legged friends should miss out on holidays too. So if you are thinking of booking a break in the Lake District and the thought of leaving behind your dog in kennels or with a dog sitter fills you with guilt, then you will be delighted to know we have two dog friendly rooms and welcome dogs in our bar too.
As summer is now upon us and the sun itself is making a regular appearance, this is a great time to visit the Lake District as there is so much going on. It’s been hard to narrow it down, but we’ve hand-picked 10 of the best events and festivals going on nearby to take in whilst you are visiting this summer.
One of the newest attractions to open in the Lake District is the Lakes Distillery, at Bassenthwaite Lake, offering people the opportunity to see how the largest whisky distillery in England and the Lake District’s first legal (!) distillery operates. Being intrigued by both the prospect of a Lake District Whisky and the fact that it is only a few minutes away from us in Setmurthy, we recently popped in to take a look.
This week we were delighted to have been recognised as a TripAdvisor® Certificate of Excellence Hall of Fame winner.
The Certificate of Excellence award celebrates excellence in hospitality and is given only to businesses that consistently achieve great traveller reviews on TripAdvisor. The ‘Hall of Fame’ was created to honour those that have earned a Certificate of Excellence for five consecutive years. Winners include accommodation providers, restaurants and attractions located all over the world that have continually delivered a superior customer experience.
Here at The Pheasant we are feeling really proud to have been awarded the TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence five years in a row and inducted into the ‘Hall of Fame.’ Its testament to the hard work of our staff and our constant commitment to providing outstanding service and quality.

Here at Bassenthwaite Lake we are lucky enough to have a pair of ospreys breeding for the last 14 years. Ospreys are fish eating birds of prey with an enormous 5 ft wingspan and we are delighted that these magnificent birds of prey keep coming back to the Lake District. This year’s pair have settled in well and are hunting, fishing and importantly mating (!) producing 3 eggs which they are currently keeping warm.
